Arsenal: Calum Chambers’ successes can be summed up in one word
By Josh Sippie
Calum Chambers has barely misplayed a step this season, and it’s easy enough to summarize how the Arsenal man has become so successful. It’s just one word.
Another match, another man of the match-worthy performance. Calum Chambers has been on a streak of ridiculous form for Arsenal following up a season of ridiculous form at Fulham, which followed a partial season of ridiculous form at Arsenal, which followed a season of ridiculous form at Middlesbrough.
So you really shouldn’t have any issues believing that this isn’t just a run of good form. This is just who he is. He is just this good. But that doesn’t mean that he was always this good. Well, it does. He’s always had this much talent, but that one word that encapsulates the difference between now and when we purchased him?
Experience.
That’s it. It’s not some super secret formula or scientific method. Chambers had something a lot of youngsters don’t get. He had the opportunity to play.

Over the past four years, Calum Chambers has been plying his trade at a lot of different outfits, and a lot of different positions, but in the process, he has had to deal with so many situations, negative and positive, and it’s through situations like that that have lead to an increased maturity on his part.
Think back to when he first arrived. You could see the talent, no doubt. But he was irresponsible, both with the ball and in terms of just holding his position. He’s dally when he didn’t need to, he’d rush when he had tons of time. It was just a lot of loose ends.
The kinds of loose ends that tend to tie themselves if you just give a guy the right opportunity and the right tutelage to work it out.
Chambers did. He’s still the same player he was back then, but you see maturity now, gained through experience. There were times against Bournemouth where he nearly abandoned his position on a wild hair to fly after the ball. But he didn’t. He stayed in place, did his part, and came off with yet another top-tier performance.
So what’s next for Chambers? He just needs more experience. He needs more opportunity. But this is him now. This is his ability level. And while I’m not always a vindictive, spiteful person, I would like to formally say that I told you so. All y’all.
