Arsenal: Dani Ceballos didn’t leave Real Madrid though
By Josh Sippie
Everyone is beside themselves because of Dani Ceballo recent praise of Arsenal and leaving Real Madrid but… it’s not exactly accurate, is it?
I find it hilarious that I can spend all season berating the English media for their biased coverage of Arsenal and their deceptively negative headlines and now I’m going to flip the switch and berate them for a deceptively optimistic headline. This time in regards to Dani Ceballos.
The Spanish midfielder’s initial foray at the club was marred with shadow. We were so scared that we wouldn’t be able to keep him permanently, not helped on by the belief that it was Ceballos who insisted on not having a purchase clause in his loan.
Ceballos quelled fears that he didn’t want to be here early in the season when he pointed out that he was, in fact, happy here. And that was well and good, we could all smile and dance around in a circle like we all do.
It was helped on by the fact that Unai Emery clearly jives with Ceballos, and Ceballos had that one amazing match against Bournemouth and, since then, has been… good.

But the recent headlines are taking what he said about his situation way out of context. Ceballos said that he is happy he left Real Madrid to come to the Emirates, which normally I’d just go about smiling and dancing around in a circle… but he didn’t leave Madrid. He insisted on not making this a permanent deal. All he’s doing is taking a brief hiatus before returning to Madrid as is clearly his desire, unless the reports of the purchase clause are completely unfounded.
Still, the fact of the matter is that we don’t have a guarantee to help him actually leave Madrid. We have hope, sure. But nothing is in writing that says we can make this stay permanent.
Meaning that Ceballos didn’t leave Madrid. He’s still their guy, we are just borrowing him. Maybe this is making me sound like a negative Nancy, which is funny, because that would make the English media currently a positive Polly.
Oh how the turn tables.
Anyway, I guess we’ll have to wait and see if he’s actually going to leave Madrid like the English media wants us to think he already did. He did say that he is enjoying his football now though. You can’t take that away from him.
