Arsenal: Let the Alexandre Lacazette horror stories begin
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal aren’t going to sell Alexandre Lacazette any time soon, but the hysteria would have you believe otherwise. Let me help you think for yourself.
Arsenal‘s player of the season last year was Alexandre Lacazette, and the club are clearly suffering in his injury absence. Which is the perfect void to introduce a little chaos and take advantage of the powers of mass hysteria, which is what is currently happening.
An agent out of Russia indicated that Zenit St. Petersberg could have purchased Lacazette for as little as £45m, which is right about what the Gunners paid for him when they bought him. He also introduced the horrible idea of a potential release clause in Lacazette’s contract worth £61m.
Naturally, that’s enough to spur a bit of questioning. Why would such a super star have such a low release clause? He’s still young enough to fetch a fee upwards of £100m, but that’s even assuming that the club actually want to sell, which they so obviously don’t.
The club stuck with him as he sputtered in his first year at the club. They stood behind him, they gave him Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who has now become his best friend.

There is a rooted loyalty here between Lacazette and the club that should have already fended off all annoying talks of an exit, but one agent comes stomping in, raising a fuss and claiming that there’s a release clause and suddenly, everyone pushes the big red panic button.
There is no reason to believe that there is a release clause. Honestly, you think no one would have paid that by now? Sure, the idea behind it is awful. Can you imagine losing Lacazette for such a low sum of money? We’d never be able to replace him for so little.
That’s where this mass hysteria is coming from. But it’s all being based on the words of one man, who is spinning outlandish tales of a move to Russia, and I want to ask you—what’s more likely? That Lacazette really did almost leave Arsenal for Russia for a fee of £45m or that he’s happy alongside Aubameyang on the biggest footballing stage in the world?
Think about it.
Lacazette is here. He’s going to be here for a while. He’s our superstar. He’s been such a key piece of our progression and he will continue to be for years to come. So go ahead and rest easy.
