Arsene Wenger spoiled Arsenal in a lot of ways, but the situation with Dani Ceballos is bringing to light just one more way.

I kind of see now why Arsene Wenger never wanted to loan guys in for Arsenal. Because it’s all temporary. There are no guarantees. Wenger wanted to ensure that the players he was using were going to be there for a long time, not just a year or two. As such, he’d have never signed Dani Ceballos.

Not more than a couple days ago, the English media completely blew Dani Ceballos’ words out of proportion. No waaaay, right?

Ceballos said that he had no regrets over leaving Real Madrid, where he wasn’t enjoying his football, and was happy to be at Arsenal. Now, at the time, I came out and said to pump the breaks, that changes nothing about his future. But it wasn’t enough. The media had already cued the pandemonium.

It all ended up being so uncomfortable for Ceballos that he felt the need to come out and say that he didn’t mean that he had no intentions of returning to Real Madrid.

Duh.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

He just likes to play, and Unai Emery was playing him.

Then he restated that his goal is to succeed at Real Madrid. Which means that if he does stay at Arsenal, it’s as a consolation prize. Hardly the kind of thing that we like to hear about our illustrious club.

We aren’t even half way through the season yet and I’m already sick of this loan. Not sick of the player, obviously, just sick of the loan. Loans suck. You have to give the player back. You can’t truly enjoy having him around. It’s like a library book. Only with the library book at least you can go to the bookstore and buy it if you liked it that much.

It’s just another way that Wenger spoiled us. He never loaned in players without an intention to buy. Never. And this is why. It disrupts things. It introduces something to the team that you won’t be able to keep hold of. So then you set the stage for a guy who might potentially change the fortunes at the club only to have to turn around and find an ample replacement yet again when he leaves in a year.

No fun. No fun at all. I guess all we can do is try to enjoy him while he’s here, but as for me, I’ll try not to enjoy it too much.
