Arsenal: The board needs to act swiftly and conclusively
By Marc Gibbons
The Arsenal board has a decision to make regarding Unai Emery, but they need to do it quick lest things continue to head down this path they’re on.
Another Saturday, another lead squandered and another chance to make up ground on the top four gone. It’s becoming a common pattern with Arsenal and under the current management, you can bet on it that we are going to see more of the same. That’s why the board need to step up and they need to act swiftly and ruthlessly.
Fans aren’t happy. Clearly the players aren’t happy, so I can see no reason why the higher-ups at the club should be happy with what’s currently going on either. Poor performances, our captain having a very public outburst against the fans and, worst of all, poor results.
Surely the board should have in their heads the financial implications if we don’t get Champions League football next season. Especially when you consider the amount of money we spent in the summer transfer window under the expectation that we would finish top four in May.
The only thing I can think of that is keeping Unai Emery in a job is his previous success in the Europa League. Maybe he is promising people like Raul Sanllehi and Josh Kroenke that he will deliver it this season. It’s how he got Sevilla into the Champions league.
All his successes there came why finishing outside the top four. It’s a risky thought that we could be putting all our hopes on the outcome of a knockout cup tournament but this is Arsenal and we like to do things the hard way.

The fans are putting more pressure on the Arsenal board to pull the trigger on Unai Emery but this is a board who are famously indecisive and in no means risk takers who like to make knee-jerk reactions.
All you have to do is remember how Unai Emery was appointed last summer, when Mikel Arteta was the sure-fire front-runner for the manager’s job but the board suddenly didn’t want to take the risk on an inexperienced manager and instead wanted to go for the safety net of someone who was proven.
The silence from above is deafening at the moment, with no real shows of public support for the manager. And what they made of Emery’s post match comments yesterday when he claimed a bizarre tactical victory despite conceding 25 shots is anyones guess.
There are different versions on what their view on the whole situation is with some reports saying that they are continuing to back Unai Emery until the end of the season and some reports saying that if we have a resounding defeat against Leicester next weekend then his position will become untenable.
Whatever their view is however one thing is certain, for the good of Arsenal football club the board must act swiftly.
