Arsenal may be without their Golden Boot winner come next season, but if Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang does decide to leave, few are to blame.

Arsenal have been bailed out so many times by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and his goal-scoring prowess. Even when we can’t defense, there’s still hope that he will knock one in. Even when we can’t create, there’s still hope that he will find space and the back of the net.

But rumors have been lingering over the past couple of months that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is considering leaving the club at the end of the year despite a new contract offer being on the table. Which is kind of a terrifying fate to face at this point in the season, when we are struggling to achieve unity both in the team and in the stands.

It’s hard to keep hold of superstars when you’re not winning anything. Players know their value, many overestimate their value, and thus if you don’t achieve what they think they should be achieving, they will go somewhere else where they can achieve that.

Aubameyang has a lot that he should like at the Emirates. He’s the star. He’s got Alexandre Lacazette as a best friend, they are great together on and off the pitch, and he will always have a ton of resources within the club.

It’s hard to say that we’re living up to expectations now, though, so even chummy feelings with teammates can take a bit of a paler light when matched up against… I don’t know, being booed every match and getting yelled at when you’re driving home at night. Isolated instances? Sure. But it’s not looking to get any better.

It’s not just the fans though. It’s the club in general. Like I said, Arsenal just aren’t living up to their ability on paper. They rarely ever have recently and Aubameyang is probably well aware of this fact, and that will play into his decision.

It’s difficult to think of a future without Aubameyang to count on, but if it does come to pass, the list of who we should blame is short. I’d blame the negative fans. I’d blame Unai Emery. And… that’s about it. Which I guess makes things a little easier. In some ways.

It’s nothing to worry about right now, seeing as how it’s in no way getting in the way of Aubameyang’s play (yet… ever?). But definitely something to keep an eye on.
