Arsenal “fans” are mad at everyone who is in support of the club, so I guess it’s time for them to get mad at Patrick Vieira now too. Have fun with that.

The whole of the Arsenal world is ablaze with controversy, meaning that the fanbase is cannibalizing themselves and lashing out at anyone who doesn’t see the current state of the club as a crisis that can only be solved by lopping off heads.

In steps Patrick Vieira. Universally loved and forever a legend, Vieira has been a calming voice of reason regarding the club for years. And even though, by his own admission, he hasn’t seen much of their season, his points are remarkably accurate because he’s seen these kinds of situations before.

For starters, he told Arsenal (and fans) to keep the faith and stay calm. To stay the course. What an outlandish principle.

He went on to say that Granit Xhaka deserves respect, that he is good enough, and that he will come through this better than ever.

He then threw shame on all the former players that have lambasted Xhaka because it’s just “too easy” a thing to do. And that’s the big theme here, with Vieira, and with what I’ve been saying to. Do not take the easy way out.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

The easy way out is demanding Jose Mourinho, or Luis Enrique, and ripping into every player that remotely disappoints you. The hard thing, the thing that it is your duty as a fan to do, is to support the club through hardship. Because that’s when it’s at its hardest to do so. Anyone can support an Invincible team. Anyone can. But who can say that they wholeheartedly supported the entirety of the club when they were losing 1-0 to Sheffield United?

Not many.

Patrick Vieira would remind you all not to take the easy way out. To stay calm (not passive, but calm), to not destroy each other, to stay unified.

Most people encouraging this kind of heinous activity are being ostracized and pushed away as cowardly, or weak. But in truth, these are the people, like Vieira, who know what is best for this club. So if you’re ready to cast off the fans that still support Emery, the club, the board, Granit Xhaka… then you have to cast off Patrick Vieira too. Because you can’t have one without the other.
