Wingbacks

The wingbacks remain one of the only reasons why I’m not openly cursing the back three every chance I get. We have seen this position work wonders for us, so much so that Sead Kolasinac was a front runner for player of the season last year before his injury. All because he was such a good wingback.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

If healthy, expect Kolasinac to start at left wingback, with Kieran Tierney having transitioned into the Premier League role. Of course, it Kolasinac isn’t healthy, then there’s no alternative, and it will fall to Tierney to do double duty. Unless Emery wants to get creative, which I’m not sure is a good idea right about now.

Opposite him, Ainsley Maitland-Niles should return to the starting XI. He ranked No. 2 on my forgotten players list from yesterday and I’m ready to un-forget him, since he can be such a difference maker when he’s really on his game.

Like I said, this is a powerful position with a lot of potential to do damage, but given the defensive frailties we’ve seen at the club, it’s perfectly natural to be a bit wary of it. All we can do is hope for the best.

The midfield is coming up next.
