Centre-Backs

CB. Arsenal. SHKODRAN MUSTAFI. 7.0. Actually one of the better performers on the night. Played some nice combinations with Calum Chambers, passed the ball quickly and progressively (which was made stark by his partner’s shortcomings in this department), and made several excellent defensive interventions, especially from crosses. Picked up a knock midway through the second half and battled on from there, which is a testament to his workrate and attitude throughout this season.

4.0. His worst moment came for Frankfurt’s equaliser. Slow to close down the ball, then even slower to shift his weight, allowing the shot to fly into the far corner. But his play in possession was so much worse. Several frighteningly poor moments with poor passes and wayward first touches. Leaves his full-backs in terrible positions with slow passes that invite pressure, rarely breaks lines with progressive passes, and always looks panicked. Not good enough.. CB. Arsenal. SOKRATIS
