Arsenal fans have a vicious streak, and Unai Emery is on the end of it. It’s okay to be angry, but stop being so damn piggly and be human.

What am I doing here? Am I really about to put out another “plea” to Arsenal fans to try to get them to access their non-arsehole side? I guess so. Because honestly I’d rather talk about that than I would talk about how awful this club is on the pitch. Everyone is talking about that.

Fans have every right to be angry. Of course they do. They’re the ones that pay for tickets (or… not pay for tickets), they’re the ones that buy and wear jerseys and team gear and everything. Those ages pay for the club to be better than they are now, not having won a match in seven matches.

I’ll not tell fans not to be angry. I’m angry too. I hate seeing disinterested players, and a manager who I’ve seen happy and energetic look so defeated. It sucks.

But the appropriate reaction is not to attack these people viciously, as this fanbase has a horrible tendency of doing. Not just Unai Emery either, but Granit Xhaka, Shkodran Mustafi, Mesut Ozil and more. Do people not realize that these players are human to, or do they not care?

More from Pain in the Arsenal

No wait, let me answer that question. It’s a matter of self-entitled sods sitting on their bums hiding behind computer screens giving the whole lot a bad name. And let’s be clear about this again—it’s not all Arsenal fans. Not by a long shot. I have been pleasantly surprised by the number of people on social media distancing themselves from the idiots that don’t just criticize the player, or the manager. They criticize the man.

They criticize another human being that they know absolutely nothing about, and they don’t just criticize, they dig in, they attack family, they attack all kinds of things that should be out of bounds for any human being.

It’s gross, and it has to stop, but from a fanbase that (sorry, not sorry), is a little entitled, that probably won’t happen any time soon.

Although, again, I do admit that it’s promising to see so many fans taking the high line on the internet, despite the growing outcry against everything at the club. Maybe that is a sign that better things are to come. But not even my optimism can elbow in there.
