Arsenal: Blaming Stan Kroenke is beyond irrational
By Josh Sippie
Naturally, Arsenal fans need a scapegoat, but they’re just getting lazy nowadays with a constant chorus of hatred towards Stan Kroenke.
Look, I get it. Stan Kroenke is an American billionaire who just invested a ton of money into building a new NFL stadium in a city that really doesn’t need a new NFL stadium. That’s not a good look for then majority owner of Arsenal Football Club.
That said, the post-Brighton chorus of hatred directed at Stan Kroenke for “destroying this club” reeks of ignorance and desperation. To be fair (again), I understand the desperation, but call it like it is, not the way you want it to be.
Was Kroenke the one who selected this team? Was Kroenke the one on the pitch who didn’t defend properly? Did Kroenke ask his players to play subpar football for the past two months? No. Stan Kroenke did none of those things.
Stan Kroenke may not be attached to this club like some owners are, but he put people in charge that we are all happy to have. Raul Sanllehi? How much did we celebrate him joining the club? It was massive, and it still is.

That was Kroenke’s way of helping the club move on post-Wenger.
You wanted Kroenke to spend his own money, which won’t happen, nor should it. Instead, we invested big money into the likes of Nicolas Pepe, Kieran Tierney and more. Again, did Kroenke leave them on the bench? Nope.
I’m not sitting here telling you that Kroenke is an angel. Far from it. But the guy gave us what we need to succeed. The fact that the players are essentially quitting any time the going gets tough isn’t his fault. The fact that no manager can motivate these guys is not his fault. You slam Kroenke for being so distant from the club yet you lambast him for every small detail that happens close to the club. It’s counterintuitive to the max.
I get how frustrating this is. I’m right there with you. Blaming someone is the easy way out, but for as much as some of you hate Kroenke, he has very little to do with the day-to-day failures of a club he barely touches. Surely that can’t be hard to see.
This club will bounce back when they get the right people in charge and weed out the wrong players. And when that happens I bet no one will be thanking Kroenke either.
