Arsenal were thoroughly neutered against Manchester City, and while you may just want to forget it happened, let’s learn from the failure with these five lessons.

Arsenal fans headed into this one with a timidity of optimism. We had a full strength attack and City had a battered defense. It almost led to something serious when Gabriel Martinelli had a chance in on goal in the first minute. Who knows what might have happened if that had gone in.

Regardless, it didn’t, And even if it had, City would have thumped us, because this was a thumping from the second minute and was over before half time. It was embarrassing, shambolic, and something that fans really shouldn’t be happening. We need solution, but the problem is we won’t likely have access to one any time in the near future.

For now, all we can do is hang on and look forward, towards a time when we have a better core of players and a manager who knows how to build. Maybe that’s Freddie Ljungberg, but it will take more time to find out then we can possibly give him.

As ugly as this failure was, we can still learn from it, as one should learn from all failures. Even if these lessons are pretty much already pretty well established.

Anyway, let’s get into those lessons, starting with No. 5.

5. Mesut Ozi isn’t helping anyone

I can’t believe I’m left saying this again, but here I am, saying it again. It didn’t take Unai Emery long to figure out that Mesut Ozil wasn’t right for the club. It makes complete sense to bench him and essentially remove him from the club, whether you personally like it or not.

How long will it take Freddie Ljungberg? This is yet another match where Ozil contributed next to nothing in the match, he was exposed, and the best ball he kicked wasn’t a ball at all. It was when he punted his gloves after being substituted.

Time has been up. There isn’t anything else Ozil can do for this club. So stop throwing him out there.

Moving on to No. 4.
