1. Bernd Leno can’t be enjoying this

I hate to isolate the effect of our failures on one man, but here’s the deal—we’ve been this bad for awhile. And you’re either in or you’re out at this point. Some players are clearly out, and shouldn’t be a part of the next era of the club.

But Bernd Leno falls in that middle range. He’s a tremendous goal keeper spending his prime years at a club that can’t defend to save their lives. It’s truly awful, it makes Leno look far worse than he is, and I just hope that Leno can keep the faith long enough to see the fate of the club turn around.

It wasn’t that long ago that the English media was blaming Leno for the failures of this defense, drawing attention to his poor clean sheet record, and that isn’t going to change any time soon.

That’s not a good position to be in, to feel like all your best efforts have no impact on anything. And that’s where Leno is. No matter how good he is, the club can’t be bothered to help him out. I know that you play for the badge, and not for yourself, and there’s no reason to think that Leno is disgruntled, nor will he outwardly speak of it, but know that he is going to be getting sick of it. You can bet on that much.

We need help, we need it soon, and I just don’t see where it’s going to come from without a serious change somewhere.
