Arsenal vs Manchester City: No one even cares anymore
By Marc Gibbons
It’s more than a mess. It’s a disaster and I can see absolutely nothing from anyone at Arsenal that anything is going to change. Does anyone even care?
Today’s Arsenal match went pretty much the way we all knew it would. That’s how predictable things are with this football club nowadays. No leadership or fight on the pitch and no leadership or ownership in the boardroom.
Unai Emery was sacked 15 days ago and since then there has been precisely zero movement from the club in an effort to appoint his successor. Instead, what we have is a club legend hopelessly out of his depth in trying to turn the club’s form around and receiving absolutely zero support.
In the five games since Emery left, the players have shown fight on the pitch for precisely nine minutes in a 3-1 win against a poor West Ham side. If the people running this club think what is happening is acceptable then I think they owe us answers as to why.
We are receiving no clarity whatsoever from the club on what the situation is. What we do know, however, is that this club is sinking further and further away from where we need and want to be the longer this drags on.
I feel that the board wanted Freddie Ljungberg to be successful and carry us through till the end of the season. That way they could appoint their main man in the summer. However, the players are showing as much fight under Ljungberg as they did towards the end of Emery’s reign and it’s clearly not working.
The board just don’t seem to have a plan B or the urgency to change things. They are essentially letting things play out for as long as possible and then making changes long after everyone else notices these changes needed to be made. There’s a good case that this Arsenal board are the most inept in all of world football.

It’s long been said that this club is rotten from top to bottom, and despite the repeated statements from the higher-ups that they do care there appears to be very little evidence to support this fact.
The same can be said of the players. How many times do we get players talking themselves up on social media and saying they are fully behind the manager and want to play for the club only to turn in poor performance after poor performance?
The question is how much longer do we have to endure this? It’s obvious this season is a complete write-off now with pretty much nothing to play for in the league, so are the board going to allow Freddie to continue in his role and hope for the best or are they going to do the right thing and appoint a new man imminently and allow him to stamp his authority on the team for the remainder of the season and start again in the summer?
If the decision of the board is to stick with Ljungberg until the end of the season then they need to bring in other back room staff to support him who can try to get the players playing as a team.
One thing is clear though, this club is in desperate need of a fresh start and we need new people brought in who want to fight and care for this football club and that’s not just people on the pitch, it’s people at the club from top to bottom.
