Central Midfield

6.0. Struggled to get into the game in the first half, largely bypassed by Arsenal’s forward play. He was far from a problem, but he didn’t have the all-encompassing impact of previous showings. After the break, he improved defensively, doggedly digging in as he shielded the back four, but his composure on the ball worsened, sometimes hoofing it long under pressure. Not the problem, but not the solution either.. CM. Arsenal. MATTEO GUENDOUZI

8.0. It is amazing what happens when you play a player in his natural position. Tired a little in the second half as Arsenal had to increasingly chase the ball, but was stupendous before the break. Won the ball over and over again, conducted play beautifully, with short, simple, quick passes, and protected the defence. A very good performance from Torreira, who is re-establishing as the heart of the midfield once again.. CM. Arsenal. LUCAS TORREIRA

CAM. Arsenal. MESUT OZIL. 7.5. Best player on the pitch in the first half. Wonderful on the ball, terrific skill, passing, dummies, movement into space, and even worked hard defensively, both in his pressing and sitting deep. Tired massively after the break, however, which hurts his rating here. Has shown that he is willing to adapt to Mikel Arteta’s system, now needs to get fully fit to execute for a full 90 minutes.
