Arsenal have elite strikers, but that may be a ticking clock. Cue my attempts to gather momentum to bring Olivier Giroud back home again.

Olivier Giroud is an Arsenal icon, and rumor has it he is still open to a move back home to the Emirates. On paper, this makes no sense, but when you start looking out towards the future, you see a much different picture.

This striker situation was never supposed to be a problem. After Arsenal added Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Alexandre Lacazette, there were few striking combos in the world that could stand up to that.

But as things often do with Arsenal, something soured. Whether it was the managerial situation, the position in the table, or just a lack of team chemistry, there are now questions whether we can keep hold of either one of these guys.

In the mean time, we have seen them at various points this year slacking off, complaining, lacking confidence, and all manner of fun things.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

There have been bright spots, of course, and Aubameyang’s recent performance against Chelsea takes the cake, but the rumors are still loud and proud. Aubameyang wants to leave and Lacazette has zero confidence.

So here I am again, talking about Olivier Giroud, and how he’s still a perfectly viable option for us. Not in and of himself, like Arsene Wenger tried, but in tandem with someone else. Someone complimentary.

For a team with very little aerial presence, the Gunners still try to heave balls into the box as if the specter of Olivier Giroud is still there. He made a killing off redirecting aerial crosses with his forehead (or his heel) into the back of the net, but since he left, we’ve had no one capable of following up on that success. And it’s a void.

No one does it better than Giroud. And for a club that is starting to boast a lot of speed and talent on the wings, those crosses are going to be coming in more and more, and Giroud could find another season or two of serious success before calling it quits.

Besides, it’s not like Chelsea are using him.

Again, we can’t lose both our current guys and only answer with Giroud. That would be silly. We need another complimentary presence up there. An alternative. But he would be affordable, he would be dedicated, and you can’t get much more proven.
