2. Do we need to prepare for a striker turnover?

Speaking of resurgences, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has had one hell of just that under Arteta. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him defend in my entire life, but lo and behold, whatever Arteta told him got him too, and now we have to ask ourselves if there is more to Aubameyang than we though there was.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Still, he only has a year left on his contract, same as Ozil, and with rumors swirling, it’s time to prepare to part ways with him. Which is daunting, since we’ve seen the deficiencies of Alexandre Lacazette, who may also be leaving. So the big question is if we need to prepare now for a future of needing new assistance up front.

Answer

Again, no. This is not the time to load up on overpriced goal scorers. Plus, anyone we get now probably wouldn’t be the best signing anyway. To replace Aubameyang at the very least, we need some quality, but we also have too be smart about it. I wouldn’t rule out Gabriel Martinelli internally, but someone like Luke Jovic or (I’m going to say it) Olivier Giroud, while anticlimactic on the surface, is the best way to go.

That’s nothing we need to worry about this winter though. Even if we sell Aubameyang, which I hope we do, we don’t need to replace him right this moment.

Finally, No. 1.
