Arsenal have a talented young man, and other teams are sniffing. It’s safe to say that there is no such thing as “too early” to invest in Gabriel Martinelli.

Anytime you have a talented young player, you are going to get your Barcelona’s and your Real Madrid’s promising these kids their wildest dreams. Chances are if you take the bait, you end up fading away and wasting formative years where you’re not getting any playing time. But Arsenal are apparently prepping to drive off that interest in their own Gabriel Martinelli.

According to reports, the Gunners are ready to stump up some serious money to turn away wandering eyes. The report stats that the wages would see him rise up to £30,000 a week, which is a nice sum for a teenager.

The objective is to keep him locked down even more securely than his contract through 2024 already does.

There is no reason not to give him big money. Since he arrived, his market value has more than doubled, and by the end of the year, he’ll have gone full Matteo Guendouzi and grown exponentially in one small year.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Ask yourself what you haven’t seen from Martinelli yet, that you’d want to see before locking him down for a long time?

He scores goals. He creates chances. He dribbles very well. He’s got blistering pace. He scores goals even when he’s having bad days. He scores in high pressure situations. He scores against big clubs. He’s the first Arsenal teenager to score ten goals in all competitions since Nicolas Anelka. He’s shown his work rate. He’s defended well.

I could go on. But I don’t see the need. Here is a teenager who has all the makings of a superstar and, at the very least, all the makings of a veteran.

There’s still growth to be had. Less than I initially thought, but still growth. I couldn’t pinpoint specific things he needs to improve on, because I’ve been that impressed with him, but he can fine tune. Some softer touches, for instance. Since I wanted to provide a specific.

But while nothing is a sure fire bet, Martinelli is. Guendouzi is too. That’s why the club went all in on the kid so quickly. You often hear of “can’t miss” talents, but it’s rarely attributed correctly.

With these two, it is. Now we just need Martinelli to stay around forever. Give him one of those stupid 15-year contracts that you see in baseball, I don’t care.
