I know, two leftbacks impacted by a rightback? But really, think about it. Hector Bellerin is not going to be effected. He’s the go-to starter. Kieran Tierney isn’t going to be affected. So is he. The big question is who Soares will slide in for when necessary.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Sead Kolasinac sits behind Tierney in the pecking order, despite how fantastic he has been this year. If Soares were to take the leftback role, pushing Bukayo Saka into an attacking role, it will largely be at the expense of the bruising Bosnian.

The only way this wouldn’t effect Kolasinac is if Mikel Arteta has no intention of playing Soares at leftback. If he sees Soares as a direct competitor to Bellerin and will leave Saka at leftback. But that strikes me as unlikely.

There’s no reason to get a one-sided fullback. That defeats the purpose. We need someone who can float between roles. That’s Cedric Soares. And it’s up to Kolasinac to keep Soares on the other side of the pitch.

Speaking of which, No. 1 is next.
