2. Help is on the way

Just days before the Burnley match, Arsenal announced two signings that, go figure, people found reason to complain about. These two signings are defenders, and not going to bolster the attack on the surface, but they actually are going to provide a boost to our attacking fortunes, and to our midfield fortunes, and that all starts next time out, when, hopefully, they are introduced to the mix for the first time.

First, Pablo Mari could be a miracle worker on this defense. While it looked strong against Burnley, this defense was walking a tightrope all the way through, which left fans on edge. I believe that Mari can help us out there. Otherwise we wouldn’t have signed him.

But it’s Cedric Soares who is the biggest help. Especially with Bukayo Saka‘s fate uncertain. With Soares added to the mix, we don’t have to worry about Granit Xhaka or Ainsley Maitland-Niles—or Saka, when he returns—playing fullback anymore. They will be allowed to settle back into the midfield or the attack and contribute where they are more needed.

You can never have too much defense. I think we can all agree on that. And that’s why we bolstered so much in the winter window.

Finally, staying on subject, let’s talk No. 1.
