Arsenal: Okay, let’s see the new signings now please
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal’s defense was far from the problem against Burnley, but that doesn’t matter, we need to see the new signings now, for pity’s sake.
Honestly, I’m not all that beat up about the Burnley result. Key word there is result. A clean sheet at Turf Moor on a day where Arsenal‘s defense was battered and constantly under pressure? I’ll take that.
What I am a bit beat up about is the complete lack of excitement from the match. And this isn’t the first time. The Gunners have had a ridiculously difficult time attacking lately, yet it’s their attack that costs the most money, the commands the most wages, that has the most star power, and they’re giving us very little to be excited about.
As fans, we are entitled to a bit of excitement, and seeing as how you can only get so excited about Shkodran Mustafi actually defending well and Granit Xhaka being a stone-cold leviathan on the pitch, we are due some other form of excitement.
We’ve got a chunky lay-off now, and it’s going to suck, because we didn’t end on a high note and the road ahead is murky and full of obstacles. But one thing we undoubtedly have to look forward to is the debuts of our two new signings—Cedric Soares and Pablo Mari.

I know, I just said that proper defending is only so exciting. But how about proper defending from a guy (Pablo Mari) who we were mocked for signing because he was so unknown? How good would it feel to see Mari slot right into the team and prove himself not just capable, but good and reliable? I don’t know about you, but finding ‘something’ out of ‘nothing’ is one of my favorite past times at this club.
And Cedric Soares? I can’t wait to see what his arrival means to Bukayo Saka and Ainsley Maitland-Niles. Meaning I can’t wait to see Saka coming on as a winger and Maitland-Niles given a good, solid chance in the center of the pitch.
These are underwhelming signings in name value only. I am giddy to see how Mikel Arteta takes the most of them. That’s what has me beat up over the prolonged break. Not the fact that we didn’t finish on a high note, but that I won’t be able to see the new boys until February 16th.
Whatever the case, we better see the new boys on February 16th.
