Arsenal: Mikel Arteta needs to polish his axe for chopping
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is supposedly ready to take the axe to three overpaid superstars. Polish that axe, baby! Let’s see some heads roll.
Mikel Arteta‘s Arsenal takeover has been a mixed bag. On the one hand, he has somehow managed to improve this defense in a big way with all the personnel that Unai Emery and Freddie Ljungberg couldn’t quite sort out.
On the other hand, this attack has faltered, and goals are now as rare as unicorns. As such, rumor has it that our new manager is ready to become a headsman and chop off our three biggest superstars, all in one summer.
The report cited indicates that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Mesut Ozil and Alexandre Lacazette could all be set for sales as Arteta attempts to completely revamp our attacking fortunes. And you can probably guess what I think about that—Hell yeah! Let the heads roll!
Here’s the thing—star power is something. Having those players that you just know are capable of so much. But when they continuously prove incapable, then something has to be done. And I refuse to believe that our attack can be any worse without these guys as it is with these guys.

Because it’s pretty bad, in case you haven’t noticed.
Now, some of you may be thinking that it’s silly to axe them all, but to that I say CHOP THEM ALL DOWN. And I don’t use all caps very often.
All three of them have contracts running up in the summer of 2021 and to avoid the risk of free exits or unnecessary extensions, recouping value now, when that value can then be turned into fresh new faces for the attack, is vital. It’s so important. Not to mention that we already have so many excellent pieces in place. Guys like Gabriel Martinelli and Nicolas Pepe and Bukayo Saka and presumably Emile Smith Rowe when he returns from being the Superman of Huddersfield.
These are the guys to build the attack around. Not bloated superstars who’s effectiveness waxes and wanes. And the fact that they all have tremendous upside while our superstars have peaked is just added cause for these extreme, axe-requiring measures.
Ruthlessness has been the word of the week for us here at Pain in the Arsenal and I’m going to use it again here. Mikel Arteta must show ruthlessness if he wants to succeed where previous managers have failed.
