Arsenal: 3 wildcards that could determine the fate of the season
By Josh Sippie
1. Alexandre Lacazette
Alexandre Lacazette has gone from our most consistent player, frequently ranking as the No. 1 key player in every single match, to our No. 1 wildcard to determine how we finish the season. But it’s very easy to see why. He is in the worst run of bad confidence in his North London career. The issue there is each year he one-ups himself with a worse streak than the year before.
Now, having gone so long without a goal, I’m beginning to wonder if he’s shot his wad. It’s hard to find a Gooner not advocating for Lacazette to be benched and/or sold and every single match, his confidence seems to dwindle more and more.
That said, we all know what he’s capable of. We all know that he can flip things around very quickly and very conclusively. The big question is when that will happen. If it happens relatively soon and he can get back in form, combining with Aubameyang like old times, then Lacazette can turn this season around for the team by turning the attack round.
But there is also that possibility that he’s just done. That he’s checked out. That he will fade into obscurity and finish the season with five goals and look for a new home. I hate to think like that, but we have to consider all the possibilities.
So there you have it. Three guys, three great big unknown futures. But if they play their cards right, Arsenal stand to gain immensely.
