Arsenal: Of course we’d take Aaron Ramsey back, but it’s not that simple

Juventus are supposedly ready to let Aaron Ramsey go after just one season, and Arsenal should have their ears perked up. But there’s an issue here.

I still think that one of the most devastating decisions of the decade (last decade, that is) for Arsenal was letting Aaron Ramsey walk for free. Part of me still holds it against Mesut Ozil, because it was his wages that prevented us from paying Ramsey what he deserved.

And as such, Ramsey walked. To one of the best teams in the world. In response, Arsenal signed nobody. They brought in Dani Ceballos, who has not been healthy and has been even less consistent. Matteo Guendouzi is trying to do something.

But we don’t have a lot of creativity coming out of that midfield. It isn’t coming from Mesut Ozil, that’s for sure.

So yeah, I would take Aaron Ramsey back in a heartbeat. In one single heartbeat. He would bring needed life to this midfield, he would bring creativity, innovation, an actual goal threat not named Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

And I would love him back on this team, where he belongs. His home.

It’s not that simple though. See, the big story here isn’t whether we want back the guy who should be our captain, who great up at the club, sprung us to two FA Cups and lived and breathed for the club. The big story here is if we’re willing to pay top dollar for a player we let walk for free just a year ago.

I can’t think of much more embarrassing than spending £25m-ish on a player that just walked for free. How stupid would that make us look? We’re already struggling financially, we always are, and any money we spend on Ramsey is drastically wasted. Because we wasted that opportunity. We wasted the chance to keep him and let him work his magic in our midfield.

Going back in on him now would be borderline pathetic.

This is hard for me to say, but for as much as I want Aaron Ramsey back in the red and white, if we have to spend anything near what we would probably have to spend for him, then we just can’t do it. He’s the perfect midfielder, but it just doesn’t work.

Of course, now that I’ve said all this, I gotta level. I would be livid with my club if they bought Ramsey. But after one little scolding article I would celebrate like crazy.
