1. Finally revisits Mustafi transfer

Investing a lot of money in Dayot Upamecano would not be the first time Arsenal invested a healthy chunk in a supposed defensive solution. That was Shkodran Mustafi, he cost £35m, and he has not lived up to that price tag.

Since then, Arsenal have not invested in the defense. They have skirted by on half-solutions like Sokratis and David Luiz and invested faith in guys like Calum Chambers and Rob Holding. Of those four, Chambers is the only who has panned out. All the while fans have begged for an investment into this defense.

By investing this kind of money into Upamecano, we can finally call a close to the Mustafi era of this defense. This defense that was supposed to be built around Mustafi, but is no better off built without him. This defense that can be put to rest and turn into a new era of defense centered around Dayot Upamecano.

Upamecano is younger than Mustafi was when we bought him. He’s more reliable, more proven, and is just the necessary step forward to leave the defensive failures of the past half decade behind.
