Arsenal: 3 reasons not to worry about Matteo Guendouzi
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal starlet Matteo Guendouzi has taken two big blows to his seemingly untouchable stock. Here are three reasons not to worry.
In the span of just a couple hours, Matteo Guendouzi‘s stock plummeted at Arsenal. He was left out of the entire squad against Newcastle, only to see Dani Ceballos put a mastery on the role that Guendouzi is hoping to excel at.
Then, after the match, Mikel Arteta revealed why Guendouzi was left out—it was the result of some kind of disagreement between Arteta and Guendouzi while the team was training in Dubai.
That’s a whole lot of things going a whole lot of wrong all at once. And normally, it might be enough to see a player throw up the deuces and push for an exit at the nearest transfer window. But that isn’t going to be what happens with Matteo Guendouzi.
Why? I’ll tell you why, in three easily navigable points. We will start where we always do, at No. 3.
3. He’s young
There have been so many times over the past two years that I’ve made it a point to say that Matteo Guendouzi is too good to be considered a youth product anymore. He’s a senior team player through and through. He’s not going to be spending time with the youth outfit to get playing time.
High praise, sure, but it also tends to inevitably lead to us forgetting that he is still only 20-years-old, soon to be 21 in April.
That means that despite all that’s happening, he has so much time to spare and he has so much time to learn and grow and mature. All players go through stuff like this, and the best ones use these opportunities to become not just better players, but better human beings too. That’s what Guendouzi’s youth is going to do for him.
Yes, he has the talent to start. But he also has the youth and the leeway to grow. Now, we start running into issues if that isn’t the way he wants to go, but one little training ground disagreement isn’t a sign of any larger issues.
Moving on to No. 2.
