Arsenal: 3 reasons not to worry about Matteo Guendouzi
By Josh Sippie
1. Arteta got Xhaka to stay
So there we have why Guendouzi shouldn’t be worried, and why Arteta shouldn’t be worried, now why should fans not worry about a potential Guendouzi exit? Easy. Mikel Arteta is nothing if not a man of the players. He’s not so far removed from being a player himself, plus he comes from the ultimate man of the players, Arsene Wenger.
Arteta did what I thought was impossible. He got Granit Xhaka to stay. After being booed off by his own fans, stripped of the captaincy, removed into exile and, to cap it all off, having his agent say that a move to Hoffenheim had been agreed, it looked like Xhaka was gone.
But Arteta talked to him, and all of a sudden, Xhaka is the star of the show again. He’s here, business as usual, and he looks better than he has all season.
If Arteta is able to talk to a guy with 1.99 feet out the door and convince him to stay and be a massive part of the club, he can talk to Guendouzi and get him to come back from this better than ever before as well. Clearly it’s not that hard. Even though it is.
