2. A slight variation

So we know that Arteta loves the 4-2-3-1, he loves his lone striker, and he wants to keep Aubameyang as a winger. But what if he didn’t?

More from Pain in the Arsenal

For whatever reason, Arteta has not played Aubameyang as a striker since he took over, and I’m still convinced it would be a good idea. If nothing else, because it would give us two natural wingers on either side of Aubameyang.

We’d put Nicolas Pepe out on the right and either Bukayo Saka or Gabriel Martinelli on the left. Both of those youngsters like to cut inside, they have a solid finishing touch, they love to deliver delicious balls into the box. Saka and Pepe in particular have shown a knack for the assist, as they now have 18 between the two of them, ten for Saka and eight for Pepe.

The benefit to this is we still get Ozil at the No. 10, who will presumably create some himself, and we get the mass of assists on either side of the starting striker, who just so happens to be the world class Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

I don’t know why it hasn’t been tried, but we’re doing just fine as is, so I won’t complain.

Finally, let’s get weird at No. 1.
