Sometimes, when I’m not sure what to do with a player, I’ll write two contrast articles about him and see which one I agree with more. So, having just written a three-parter about why Arsenal should sell Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, I’ll now flip the script and talk about three reasons we should keep him.

As the last ever signing of Arsene Wenger, Aubameyang has been massive to the culture here at the club through some of the hardest seasons in recent memory. He’s a thrill to watch, he’s always buzzing on the pitch and as our captain, clearly he’s held in high esteem.

But we need to figure out what to do with him going forward, whether to re-sign or sell him, and that has to be figured out this summer. Particularly with his contract winding down.

Anyways, let’s talk about why we should keep him and maybe by the end, I’ll know which way I lean one way or the other. But I doubt it.

We start with No. 3.

3. The goals

In my case against him, I said that the goals are replaceable. And that’s true. Goals are replaceable. But there’s a certain risk involved in anything that involves any kind of replacing. You just don’t know how well a player will settle, if he’ll like the club, the country, the hemisphere. There are so many unknowns.

Keeping Aubameyang, there are no unknowns. He will score goals, he will be among the best in the league at scoring goals, and that goal tally will only increase the more time you give him among this budding attack.

Plus, even when the attack sputters, Aubameyang is always liable to pitch in a goal or two anyway. He’s done it before and he will do it again. That’s what happens when you employ elite talent. Sure, most strikers would find joy in then midst of this attack, but Aubameyang is already part of that attack, so why change things up?

Speaking of which, No. 2.
