Arsenal: 3 unexpected sales we may see this summer

Arsenal will be looking to clean house this summer, and while very few people are truly unsellable, these three guys are potentially unexpected exits.

Mikel Arteta is getting a sense for who and what he needs to move Arsenal into the next era. The goal is that, whoever doesn’t fit in can be sold this summer to fund Arteta’s first big transfer window.

There are already rumors that he is going to take a giant axe to this attack and part ways with the big three of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Mesut Ozil. Frankly it wouldn’t be any big surprise if so. But there may be some other guys that get sold that we weren’t necessarily expecting as well. And these aren’t fringe guys like Lucas Torreira, who have been rumored to leave.

These are guys that we probably wouldn’t want to see sold, but who may make way strictly because Arteta is making it clear who his favorites and aren’t all.

It’s never fun to explore these kinds of things, but here are three guys that we may not be expecting to get sold, but who Mikel Arteta just might go ahead and sell regardless. If ruthlessness is his thing, that is.

We start with No. 3.

3. Sead Kolasinac

I don’t want to see Sead Kolasinac sold. I love watching him play, I love him in the red and white. And he is so well-equipped to compete with Kieran Tierney on a regular basis. Plus he brings stuff no one else on the team has.

My concern is that, with Bukayo Saka and the potential for Cedric Soares to swap to the left, we don’t really need Sead Kolasinac.

Plus, he would fetch a good price. He’s still in the prime of his career and he’s truly special at what he does.

The one big reason we wouldn’t sell him is if Arteta willingly moves Saka to left wing exclusively and thus lets Kolasinac and Tierney rock out as leftbacks. I’m hoping for that. I really don’t want to see Kolasinac leave, but his lack of involvement lately, as well as his injury history, make him someone who I can’t help but think is on the chopping block.
