Arsenal: Transfer madness the only thing this club is missing
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal is finally moving to the next level in a lot of ways, but the one thing still stuck in the past is the personnel. Transfer madness is the quickest solution.
There are a lot of improvements going on around the Emirates these days. After Unai Emery spun the club into a dumpster fire, Mikel Arteta came in, put out the fire, and is rebuilding with all the pieces that were previously smoldering. Now, Arsenal is seeing growth across the board.
Obviously there’s growth enough at manager. Arteta has proven himself full of ideas, as he has completely revamped this defense, as well as getting the attack firing on all cylinders again.
On an individual level, guys are stepping up like never before. I know I keep harping about it, but the revelation of Shkodran Mustafi and David Luiz is too remarkable not to talk about. Meanwhile, Dani Ceballos has come back into the good, Granit Xhaka is still here and crushing it and we’ve got so many youngsters to look forward to.
Perhaps the only thing that this club needs to move forward is an honest to goodness transfer madness. I don’t mean dropping £150m just for the hell of it, though.

I mean clearing out the dead weight, even those who appear insufficient and loading up on class talent across the board. It may cost a lot of money, but let’s not leave the optimism at the door just because we haven’t been able to afford the cover charge in the past.
There is a rumor floating around that the Gunners are ready to load up on the likes of Thomas Partey, Dayot Upamecano, and Dominik Szoboszlai all in one fell swoop. It’s crazy talk. But when you think about it, if we offload the likes of Lucas Torreira, Rob Holding, Sokratis, and Mesut Ozil, what better way to revamp than with some proven young players?
That’s the thing though, for Holding and Torreira especially, you could make the case that they have much more yet to offer. But that shouldn’t matter if we are willing to spend money to do better.
Arteta has already proven pretty ruthless when it comes to getting who he wants on the pitch and what he wants from the team. If he can prove the same level of ruthlessness in the transfer market, then all those positive feelings we were getting from his early days will be multiplied.
