Central Midfield

4.0. Not good. It all started with a pass straight to Jarrod Bowen in the second minute, which Bowen then cracked the foot of the post with. Never got going with his passing, completing less than 90% of his attempts, failing to progress play or control proceedings from deep. He lacks the quality in the final third to create chances or beat a defender and is still a defensive liability thanks to his lack of athleticism and is being hugely protected by Mikel Arteta. Made a couple of decent interventions late on.. CM. Arsenal. GRANIT XHAKA

DANI CEBALLOS. 5.0. Needs to release the ball quicker. His twisting and turning is effective when trying to release pressure, but when the chance to break forward comes, it slows down attacking moves and allows the opposition to organise themselves. His passing was mostly effective, though he chooses the more conservative option a little too frequently and he did play several loose balls forward. Clearly has the talent, but needs to be more purposeful and pacy in his execution,. CM. Arsenal

CAM. Arsenal. MESUT OZIL. 7.0. A quietly effective performance from Mesut Ozil. He is averse to shooting, for some infuriating reason, but his play in possession was neat and tidy, he received the ball nicely to progress attacking moves, and he rarely lost the ball cheaply. Then provided a lovely cushioned header for Alexandre Lacazette to snatch the victory. Certainly not special, which is perhaps what Arsenal need from a £350,000-per-week midfielder, but effective nonetheless.
