The summer transfer window is looming, and Arsenal have a host of decisions to make regarding key players. Here are three that they should sell in the summer if they are not to invest in significantly.

The roster overhaul that is coming in the summer transfer window will be wide-ranging and hugely significant for the Mikel Arteta era. The Arsenal head coach has not had the chance to get his hands on the squad just yet and he will be keen to make severe changes throughout. But before it comes to signing particularly players, he must make decisions on whether to keep those that are already at the club.

So, with that in mind, here are three players that the Gunners should either sell or invest in this summer.

Arsenal, Rob Holding

3. Rob Holding

It has been a frustrating couple of years for Rob Holding. He initially looked like he was bedding into the first team very well under Unai Emery. Then a torn ACL in early December scuppered his career trajectory, and since then he has been unable to ever prove his fitness. He now sits behind David Luiz, Pablo Mari, Shkodran Mustafi, Sokratis, Calum Chambers and maybe even Dinos Mavropanos in the centre-half pecking order.

In the summer, William Saliba will arrive from Saint-Etienne and is expected to at least become the third-choice centre-back if not one of the starting pair. Arsenal are also believed to be in the market for an elite option to pair with Saliba. Assuming Chambers returns as a third option and Luiz remains as the fourth, Mustafi, Sokratis, Mavropanos and Holding are all battling it out to be either fifth choice or sold.

Keeping Holding as the fifth-choice centre-back makes little sense. With Chambers, Saliba and the new addition likely viewed as the long-term options, Holding either needs to displace one as a top-three option at the position or should be sold while his value is still relatively high. He is English, is still only 24, and could end the year fully fit. This might be Arsenal’s only chance to cash in.
