Arsenal: 3 reasons that Willian is absolutely not necessary
By Josh Sippie
2. Surplus
One of the main reasons I don’t feel awful about being uppity and saying we shouldn’t be after other clubs scraps is because we don’t need to. With David Luiz, we kind of needed a solution at the moment and the club went and got it. Same with Petr Cech. It was filling a desperate need.

But that’s the best part—we don’t need Willian. We have no imminent vacancy that he just has to fill. If you look at our attack right now, we have Nicolas Pepe starting opposite Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Since we’re going to make it back to the Champions League, we don’t have to worry about that breaking up. Willian can’t compete with that.
Behind them, we have Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli. So there is literally no reason that Willian needs to be at the club unless he wants to be the prolific fifth wheel which, correct me if I’m wrong, nobody actually wants to be.
We have a surplus at the position that doesn’t require that we go plucking at scraps anymore. Maybe if Willian was like… a central midfielder named Thomas Partey then I would revise my statement. But Willian is not Thomas Partey. Willian is Willian.
