Arsenal: 3 reasons to still believe in Nicolas Pepe
1. He just has it
Sometimes, you can just tell that a footballer is good. Even when playing amateur football, it does not take many touches to recognise when someone is a capable player. And with Nicolas Pepe, you do not need to watch him for long to realise that is a damn good footballer.
He has everything. Brilliantly quick, explosive, strong on the ball as he leans his lanky frame into defenders, terrific control, skilful, agile feet, a wonderful left foot that can score and create. There are problems to iron out, of course. His decision-making is poor at times, he slows down play too much, and he attempts to vindicate his price tag a little too much, also.
But the problems his game suffers from are fixable. His mental errors can improve, he can be taught to speed up his play, those natural inconsistencies will iron out as he gains age and experience. Pepe is still raw, but that initial talent that is unteachable is there and thriving.
Pepe is far from the finished product, but he has shown enough to me that he is a very, very good footballer. He just has it, and for now, that is sufficient to believe.
