Arsenal are reportedly eyeing up another Brazilian youngster, and that’s all we need to know. We’re all on board. Oh, and his name is Bruno Fuchs.

Arsenal were perhaps the only Premier League club that wasn’t properly tapping into the wealth of talent that Brazil had to offer. That is, prior to Edu taking over. When Edu took over, he promptly ended that streak and brought in Gabriel Martinelli.

Since then, Martinelli has become a household name, he’s one of the most exciting players on the team, and he’s established such a line of credit for Edu and Arsenal that anyone from Brazil is a good signing. Literally anyone.

That’s why Pablo Mari came to town with far higher acclaim than he otherwise would have, and that’s why, when the rumors started circulating that the Gunners were interested in another young Brazilian, I was on board before even hearing his name.

It’s Bruno Fuchs, by the way.

Bruno Fuchs is a 20-year-old centerback coming in at 6’3″ and weighing 181 pounds. Exactly the kind of size that you’d want from a centerback. He plays for Sport Club Internacional. Not going to lie, that’s all I know about him and I got it all from Wikipedia.

Because that’s honestly all you need to know about him. When you look at what he might be coming into at Arsenal, the opportunity is there to make him another Martinelli (though it’s dicey to be expecting that).

This defense is primed for a shakeup this summer, as I wouldn’t be surprised to see a whole handful of guys sold to make way for younger, more exciting talent. David Luiz and Shkodran Mustafi? Old news. Sell. Sokratis? Goodbye. Give me a defense anchored by William Saliba, Calum Chambers, Konstantinos Mavropanos, Dayot Upamecano (or Jonathan Tah) and then bring in Bruno Fuchs for good measure. Because we all like playing the Brazilian lottery, as the odds of winning are extraordinary.

As it stands, all of Arsenal’s exciting youth options are focused on the attack. We haven’t had a good defensive prospect in some time, but if Fuchs is anything like Martinelli (which I’m sure he is since Edu has flagged him), then he won’t stay a prospect for long.

The other good news is that he won’t be costing much. Transfermarkt has him estimated at less than £2m. So even if it doesn’t work out, it’s not like we lost anything. But it will work out.
