To open the 2017/18 season, Arsenal hosted Leicester City as the football season returns. Here are the five things we learned from the 4-3 victory.

Arsenal came from behind to beat Leicester City to open the 2017/18 season with a crucial victory as they look to reclaim Champions League status. Club-record signing Alexandre Lacazette opened the dramatic scoring, but some defensive vulnerabilities again cost the team, Jamie Vardy, who was superb, scoring twice in the process. Then came the cavalry. Both Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud scored in an enthralling three-minute period from off the bench to snatch the victory.

5. Oxlade-Chamberlain could be an Arsenal great

It has been difficult going for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. While his talent is noticeably enormous and there is great reason to believe that he has a bright future ahead of him, the performances on the pitch have never quite matched his potential, not over a consistent period, anyway. But on this occasion, he was superb, at both left wing-back and right-back.

Overall, Oxlade-Chamberlain had 97 touches, created two opportunities, completed six out of his nine attempted long passes, added four clearances, three tackles and three interceptions, and, perhaps most crucially, completed eight of his nine dribble attempts and won 15 out of 20 duels. He was fantastic.

If Oxlade-Chamberlain can nail down a starting role for himself, he is sure to be an Arsenal great for years to come. He has everything you would want in a modern-day footballer, other than the small issue of a contract, which shouldn’t be an issue.
