Santi Cazorla has not renewed his contract at Villareal and Arsenal is sniffing around. Here are three reasons not to bring him back.

Santi Cazorla is one of those players that Arsenal never really replaced because, well, how do you replace him? Like Patrick Vieira, how do you find a midfielder that does all that they do? They’re one of a kind.

The worst part about all of this is that, despite being a fan favorite, he was never able to say a proper farewell. A freak injury almost cost him his foot and his contract ran out while he was still injured, leaving Arsene Wenger with very little recourse. He had to let him go.

Cazorla took his talents to Villareal and, from afar, fans guffawed as the magician proved to have not lost a step, despite nearly losing his foot. He was still a creative mastermind with a surprising penchant for defensive work. He looked like his prime self all over again, like he’d never even suffered what was almost a career-ending injury.

Now, with his contract running up at Villareal, it appears as though Cazorla has no intention of signing an extension, but wants to get two more years out of playing the game, which would take him to the ripe age of 37.

And now, we get into the three reasons not to bring him back.

3. There are…

Santi Cazorla never stopped smiling, which is part of the reason fans loved him so much. He was just a likable guy. More than that though, he never complained. He wasn’t a flopper. He didn’t partake in any of the “lesser” activities of the sport. It’s literally impossible not to love him, even if he was no better than average on the pitch.

Based on his personality alone, he’s the kind of guy you want on your club, and his love of Arsenal goes hand in hand with that. He doesn’t just want to play anywhere, he wants to play first and foremost at the club he loves.

On to reason No. 2 why we shouldn’t bring him back.
