Arsenal are almost three-quarters of the way through the 2019/20 season. Here are two positives and two negatives of the campaign thus far.

During the current unscheduled break from football, we have time to reflect on Arsenal’s season thus far, which has been eventful, to say the least. From firing a manager to a club-record signing, from winless periods to hopeful performances, the 2019/20 campaign has featured almost every up and down already.

Positive 1: The rise of the youngsters

Who could have imagined the impact Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli would have had on the first team back in August? Both were known as players with potential and ones for the future, but few could have seen them enjoying such a brilliant season.

Fast forward seven months and both are near-guaranteed to make the matchday squad each and every week and one of two is invariably in the starting XI. Both are tipped to have long successful careers and they are already attracting admiring glances from the world’s biggest clubs. Arsenal will want to tie the two down to long-term contracts to scare off any suitors.

Other than Saka and Martinelli, we have seen others like Joe Willock, Eddie Nketiah, and Reiss Nelson break into the first-team squad and impress. Then Emile Smith Rowe is performing well out on loan at Huddersfield Town, Matteo Guendouzi is still only 21, while Dinos Mavropanos is at FC Nuremberg. Arsenal have a terrific crop of young players that have come to the fore throughout the year.
