Arsenal: 3 dream summer signings
1. Dayot Upamecano
At just 21 years of age, Dayot Upamecano is already one of the best centre-backs in world football. That he can improve on his already phenomenal ability is a scary thought, one that is a tantalising option for a team in desperate need of a star centre-back.
Upamecano is the perfect modern-day central defender. Strong, quick, aggressive, smart decision-making and excellent reading of the game make him a consistent and able defender. He then allies this with wonderful composure in possession, raking long-range passes from the base of RB Leipzig’s attacking set-up, often the player to step into midfield and instigate attacks.
He is the perfect signing. A brilliant footballer, only 21 and still improving and developing, and likely available with only one year remaining on his contract. If Arsenal signed only Upamecano this season, it would still be a successful transfer window, such would be his impact at a position of painful need.
Whether it will come to pass remains to be seen. There are plenty of teams chasing him, and without Champions League football, it will be difficult for the Gunners to attract him to the Emirates. But Upamecano is the perfect dream signing. He is worth chasing, no matter how much he costs.
