Brighton

I will come entirely clean, here: I was struggling to think of a Brighton player that Arsenal should look to sign this summer. To help, I took a quick scan down the squad list, in the hope that refreshing names would aid my troubles. It only worsened them.

Of the players who have performed well this season — Aaron Mooy, Davy Propper, Lewis Dunk, Pascal Gross — all are 28 or older and none have shone to the extent that they have to be included. I was a little stuck. Until I remember Matthew Ryan, who is one of the most dependable goalkeepers in the entire division and is still only 27.

With Emiliano Martinez currently supporting Bernd Leno, Arsenal do not exactly need a reserve goalkeeper, and it is doubtful as to whether Ryan would trade a starting role to sit on the bench. But Martinez has expressed a desire to play and seems to be running his contract down. If the Gunners were forced to act, they could do a lot worse than convince the Australian to back up Leno.
