Leicester City

Leicester City have been one of the stories of the season. Brendan Rodgers’ team have been superb throughout the year and look set to finish in the top three and secure qualification for the Champions League. At the heart of their success has been defensive midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, who is well on his way to fulfilling his potential as one of the best destroyers in the Premier League.

Ndidi has been compared to N’Golo Kante, his predecessor at Leicester. And for good reason. A hard-nosed defensive midfielder with terrific athleticism and sense of danger, he has been the anchorman for a cohesive and complementary Leicester midfield. And the stats bear it out.

In comparison to Kante’s Premier League-winning season at Leicester, Ndidi has made more passes per match; more accurate long passes; more tackles and a better tackle success rate; has won 100 more duels; has made more interceptions and ball recoveries. Kante turned out to be the best defensive midfielder in world football. Ndidi, at 23, is following a very similar trajectory.
