Arsenal has some specific needs for this coming transfer window, so let’s look at the best and worst solutions to each of those positions.

Arsenal‘s summer is going to be interesting. Mostly because the season will still be going on, but their fall, when the transfer window opens, will be just as interesting. With so much talk of an overhaul, the Gunners are looking at four major positions of need.

The most obvious is centerback. While William Saliba will joining the club and David Luiz appears likely to stay, injuries to Calum Chambers and uncertainty around the rest of the crew leave the club in a state of needing perhaps another big name to see us through to the other side.

Central midfield is another big position of need, especially if Dani Ceballos and Lucas Torreira. both vacate. Plenty of big names have been linked here as well, but money is always a chief concern.

Then there’s the attacking midfield. Assuming Mesut Ozil leaves, which should be a top priority, we are going to need an answer coming the other way.

Lastly, if Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and/or Alexandre Lacazette leave, we are going to have to answer with something at striker.

So let’s get right to it, the best and worst answer for each of these four positions. We start with the best of the centerback solutions.

Centerback—Best

There are really only two names that I want to hear in this space, and those two names are Jonathan Tah and Dayot Upamecano. Both Bundesliga products, both tremendous defenders who have yet to hit their prime. They are big names that would pair beautifully with the Saliba/Luiz set-up, while still allowing upward flexibility for Calum Chambers.

Whichever we decide to go for, the primary objective is that we get one of them. They stand alone atop the list, with it hard to give an edge to one or the other.

Next up, the worst of the centerback options.
