Centerback—Worst

Generally speaking, I’ve been very enthused about nearly every name being linked to the club. From youngsters like Bruno Fuchs, to long-time links like Samuel Umtiti. These are all guys that, while not as exciting as Tah or Upamecano, I could definitely get behind.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

There is one name I could not get behind, and that name is Chris Smalling.

Now at Roma, the former Manchester United outcast is 30-years-old, he’s going to cost somewhere around £25m, which is ridiculous in and of itself, and he was cast away from United for a reason. That reasons being that he wasn’t good enough.

I don’t care how well he’s done in Serie A, the simple fact of the matter is that it’s a different kind of game out there. So Smalling fits in well out there, that doesn’t mean that he will suddenly fit in better back in England.

Please, no. I would probably cry if we signed Smalling. Even my endless optimism has its limits.

Moving on to the best of the central midfield.
