Arsenal: Best XI of the post-Arsene Wenger era
Front Three
The front three positions. Two of them are not up for debate: Alexandre Lacazette was named Arsenal’s Player of the Season last year after a terrific individual campaign. He has not lived up to expectations since then, but he has not been as disastrous as some would have you believe. Lacazette is straight in the team as the centre-forward.
Joining him is Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The club’s top scorer last season, on pace to the be the top scorer this season, potentially winning the Premier League Golden Boot on both occasions. He is also an automatic selection. But who joins them?
Well, I have selected Bukayo Saka. Alex Iwobi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan both only played one season, while Nicolas Pepe is another clear option but has been outperformed by Saka this year, despite the teenager playing at left-back — Saka has more assists than any other player in the squad.
In reality, there are several positions that are toss-ups and people will select differently. But one thing that is common: this team is not very good and entirely dependent on Lacazette and Aubameyang.
