Bayer Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen has been shooting up the table in recent weeks, rising from their previous midtable standing to a spot where they can realistically challenge for a return to the Champions League. And one big reason why is that sturdy defense, which is currently tied for the second-fewest goals surrendered.

At the center of that success is Jonathan Tah, who apart from ranking as the top player we should target from Leverkusen, also ranks as one of the top overall players we should be targeting. And I said the same a couple of years back when we were linked to him then.

Tah is everything you could want in a defender. Physically, he’s unmatched. He’s got the height of a Mertesacker and the strength of a bear. But he doesn’t lose out in the athleticism department like big Per did. Tah is very mobile, he’s good on the ball, and he fits into the scheme that Mikel Arteta is hoping to build out of this defense.

Price would be a bit of a snag, but we’re going to invest in this defense, so might as well do it the right way. And Tah is one right way to do it.

Next up, the giants.
