SC Freiburg

There’s a theme that’s about to start becoming apparent here—midfielders and centerbacks. Midfielders and centerbacks. That’s what we need, so that’s what we’re looking for. Such is the case here at SC Freiburg, where the player of choice is Robin Koch.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

The other magic word here is versatility and Koch registers well on that scale as well. He’s primarily a hulking centerback, but he’s also been known to double as a defensive midfielder.

What this really comes down to is what the Gunners decide to do with Pablo Mari. Because having a swing defender could be crucial. Sure, we’re going to have William Saliba, Calum Chambers, and David Luiz, as well as another potential addition like Upamecano or Tah, but again, that swing fifth man could be vital if injuries mount again like they did this year.

Plus, Koch is young enough that he could still bud into a tremendous defender. Hell, he’s even younger than Chambers, so there’s that.

Herta Berlin is next.
