2. Less competition
Usually, I’m not excited to say that we should go after a guy because there is less competition for him than for the other guy—the guy that everyone wants. But Jonathan Tah is far from a consolation prize.

Tah is just past the hype phase. It really was just two years ago everyone was in for Tah because he’d just had his big breakout year. The price was through the roof, he was the talk of Germany and everyone wanted him. No one got him. He stayed at Bayer Leverkusen and that was that.
Nowadays, it’s the perfect time to let all the heavy spenders bid on Upamecano while we slip under the radar and snag Tah. His price has since fallen because the hype has simply settled and we could conceivably snag him for about £15m less than what Upamecano is expected to go for.
There’s nothing wrong with going in and getting the guy less people are after if he fits just as well into the schematic you’re trying to create.
