Another player like Salah who understands how his movement is crucial to scoring goals, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang might be a little closer to home for Pepe.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Aubameyang has been prolific ever since he arrived at Arsenal over two years ago. In fact, only Salah has scored more goals in that period, and Aubameyang’s clinical streak in front of goal, allied with tremendous movement off the ball and anticipation for where the chance may fall makes him a brilliant centre-forward.

But with Alexandre Lacazette playing through the middle, Aubameyang has largely started on the wing, usually as an inverted left-sided attacker. Nevertheless, he has actually been more productive when played out wide, not through the middle. In the Premier League and Europa League, Aubameyang has played centrally 16 times. He has nine goals. When on the left, however, he has eight goals in ten games.

Like Salah, his game revolves around goals. Everything he does is focused on scoring, so much so that he is rarely involved in build-up play and instead is intent on providing the final touch or finish. Pepe is a different type of player, of course, but he could adapt his game to focus on making runs towards goal like Aubameyang, instead of always searching for passes into his feet.
