Arsenal: 3 reasons for and against signing Dani Ceballos

1, Against: There are better options
Always the biggest condemnation of a player—can we do better? The answer as far as Dani Ceballos is concerned is ‘yes.’ But with a few caveats. If we go out and sign Thomas Partey, that’s definitely a better option, but the problem remains of needing a midfield pivot and Partey isn’t that. So if there are better options, we still might need Ceballos in combination with that better option.

The only real option that can solve all our midfield problems in one fell swoop is Marcel Sabitzer, who has the offensive push and midfield presence to be a one-stop-shop for all of our midfield needs. But the Gunners aren’t linked very heavily with him and it instead appears that if he goes anywhere, it will be to Tottenham.
So while this is still a point against Ceballos, he has proven to be versatile in his usage, even if that proof is relatively limited to a few key performances.
Just because we aren’t linked to an all-purpose solution doesn’t mean they aren’t out there though. Again, it really comes down to price. If we’re going to spend that much on a midfielder, ideally we want him to be more accountable.
